C.I.D. Membership Classifications

Professional Member:

You must have completed a study course in "Interior Design and Decoration" at a college or by correspondence course that is C.I.D. Accredited (see list).

You will also be required to take and pass the C.I.D. Entrance Exam ($95.00).
Note: Some programs may require purchase of C.I.D. Exam Study Guide ($95.00) along with the Exam.

If you are self-employed, you may also be required to apply for a local business license and a Tax Resale certificate if required by your state.

Proof of employment (business card or letter) is required if you are working for a decorating firm or furniture store.

Professional members are entitled to use the following appellation: Jane Smith, C.I.D.
Note: No other letters are permitted after your name.
You may also use our trademark of "CERTIFIED INTERIOR DECORATOR" on your printed materials.

To eliminate consumer confusion, professional members of C.I.D. are not permitted affiliation with designer associations such as ASID, IDS, IIDA. We are an association of Interior Decorators only.
Also, studies under or affiliation with Interior Re-designers, House Fluffers, Visual Coordinators, Instant Decorators, Arrangers or Feng Shui and Wabi Sabi mystics are not acceptable to C.I.D.

Student Member:

If you are a student currently enrolled in an C.I.D. approved correspondence course or certification program you can join as an Student member until such time as you've completed your studies.

Educational Partner:

This membership classification is provided for schools, colleges and correspondence schools who have a separate "Certificate Program for Interior Decorators". (The program is subject for review by C.I.D. for acceptance).

Trade Partner:

Workrooms, showrooms, tradespeople,furniture companies and suppliers may apply for this C.I.D affiliation as a working trade partner.
